12/1/2009

The Building and Construction Trades Department, in conjunction with Helmets to Hardhats and the national AFL-CIO, kicked off the Holiday Season on November 30th by launching a “Toys for Tots” program at the AFL-CIO headquarters in Washington, DC.  BCTD Secretary-Treasurer Sean McGarvey joined AFL-CIO Secretary Treasurer Liz Shuler, AFL-CIO Executive Vice President Arlene Holt-Baker, representatives of the Helmets to Hardhats program and uniformed members of the United States Marine Corps for the kick-off ceremony.  The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
