Labor Day 2016 Message

America continues to struggle with the fact that take home pay for American workers has remained stagnant for 20 years. And over 2 million Americans continue to struggle to find meaningful employment.

These are just two of the many reasons that North America’s Building Trades Unions are embarking upon a concerted effort to push for the adoption of a comprehensive infrastructure investment program within the first 100 days of the next presidential administration.

As we well know, such investments represent significant jobs potential for our members, as well as boundless training opportunities for countless Americans.  Inasmuch as there are willing workers, crumbling cities, and shaky transportation systems, the U.S. Congress, despite the recent passage of a long-term highway bill, has neglected to make substantive and necessary investments to meet the broad challenges associated with our nation’s neglected infrastructure that go beyond our highways.

America simply cannot wait any longer. No more political posturing.  No more hand-wringing.  And no more patchwork approaches.  American wants, needs and deserves a real, comprehensive infrastructure investment plan.

And North America’s Building Trades Unions will lead the effort to make sure that our nation’s leaders deliver.

So on this Labor Day, as we pause to reflect upon our members, our unions, and those that built our great movement, I urge you to also take time to reflect upon the actions that you can take to ensure a strong building trades turnout on Election Day, and what you can also do to help us achieve our goal of enacting a comprehensive infrastructure plan within the first 100 days of the next Administration.

Thank you and God Bless you and your families.

Sean McGarvey
President
