Day 1 - AFL-CIO Executive Council Meetings

Today, various Executive Council Committees began to lay the framework for the future of organized labor in America.  It was great to be a part of progress – which in this town doesn’t happen too often.  These are challenging times for unions and as a show of strength, of solidarity and of Leadership the Governing Board of President’s of our affiliated unions and I choose to participate fully in these meetings.  Collectively, we cover all Committees and our contributions to the AFL-CIO and the trade union movement are absolutely measurable - I can assure you.

Today was the first of three days in meetings and every minute was productive.  I personally Chair the Union Veterans Council (I was a Naval aviator for 5 ½ years during the Vietnam Era – I’m extremely passionate about the Veterans’ issue), and also Co-Chair the Pharmacy Benefit Managers Committee with LiUNA G.P. O’Sullivan with the focus being to reduce the cost of Rx drugs for our benefit funds.

I sit on four other committees including the Legislation/Policy, Repositioning (Marketing), Political and Immigration.

Working alongside President Trumka, Secretary-Treasurer Shuler and Executive Vice-President Holt Baker, we’re working tirelessly on behalf of all AFL-CIO affiliates… our goal: as I said before, move the ball forward.  Value on Display. Every Day.

More to come in the following days…
