  • Kick-Off for 7th Annual "Toys for Tots" Campaign - 11/13/2014

    November 12 marked the beginning of the annual effort by North America's Building Trades Unions, "Helmets to Hardhats," and the AFL-CIO to provide substantial assistance to the United State Marine Corps Reserves' "Toys for Tots" drive in the Washington, DC area.
  • The Finishing Trades Institute of the Mid Atlantic Region - An Educational Success Story Like No Other - 11/4/2014

    The Finishing Trades Institute of the Mid-Atlantic Region (FTI MAR) registered its first set of apprenticeship standards with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) in 1945; and has operated in good standing since that time. In 2009 the FTI became the first, and remains the only, stand-alone building trades apprenticeship program to receive full accreditation from the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Lending a Helping Hand in Washington, DC - 10/27/2014

    The Children of Mine Youth Center in Washington, DC received some unexpected, yet entirely welcome, assistance on October 27th when volunteers from the "Helmets to Hardhats" program, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) District Council 51, the Community Hub for Opportunities in Construction Employment (C.H.O.I.C.E.) and the United State Coast Guard, lent a hand to help re-furbish the center's physical structure.
