Project Type Zero

Together We Are the Hope
Project Type Zero is a new initiative created on behalf of the Building and Construction Trades Department to benefit the Diabetes Research Institute.

Since 1986 the BCTD has contributed over $40 million dollars to the DRI’s search for a cure. Diabetes is the only disease in American that continues to grow. Today 24 million American suffer from diabetes. As the disease grows, so too must our efforts. We are the HOPE for a diabetes free tomorrow.

“We will cure diabetes. This is not a prediction; it is a promise.”
–Camillo Ricordi, M.D., DRI Scientific Director

Project Type Zero has two main goals:
  1. To unify the fundraising efforts of local councils around the country through increased communication and event support.
  2. To encourage the support of non-union members who are passionate about curing this growing disease.

Project Type Zero is the new “umbrella name” for two annual events

The Labor of Love
The annual Golf Tournament hosted by the Building and Construction Trades Department. Participants include labor leaders, sponsors, and friends of the union movement. 2009 marked the 24th Annual Labor of Love and raised $212,000 for diabetes research.

D.a.d’s Day (Dollars Against Diabetes)
D.a.d.'s Day is an annual fundraising event held on Father’s Day Weekend by State and Local Councils around the country. While it was originally bucket collections, it has expanded to also include golf tournaments, motorcycle rallies, poker runs, and more. Since 1986 D.a.d.’s Day has donated $21 million dollars to the Diabetes Research Institute.
